Sunday, March 11; part of that world

added some song videos from youtube that i found! ok the small screen and grainy quality, one has a ridiculous inane addition at the end, doesnt give the characters justice but it's the best so far. they are linked under "Part of Your World", "Kiss the Girl" and "Under the Sea" in between the entries or you can just click them in this paragraph if you want. go ahead, enjoy 'em like i did! ;)

i am super duper ecstatically HAPPY today!:)

because!

i managed to catch Disney's The Little Mermaid on tim's SCV Disney channel just now! we only got to it when sebastian was in the midst of conducting the sea creatures in a song for ariel. but what the heck, it's one of the best Disney has come up with - it's wonderful! the predictable but warmfuzzy-inducing storyline, loveable and charming characters and more importantly, the songs! oh my, they are crystal-clear, bubbly, enchanting and unbelievably magical :)

ok admittedly, it's unlike the super graphically challenging animations that we now see in the big screens. yes, those new kids having topsy-turvy rollarcoastery storylines that are wow-worthy. but.

Ariel

how many of the new ones we watch gives that same feel of whatchyamacallit, contentment?, while watching it over and over and over again? the sort that actually still has a song that carries passion, desire and actually carry meanings in their lyrics? those that never fail to bring that smile across your face EVERY time you watch it, even though you know the ending, the middle bits and even in this case, what ursula uses as her lipstick? the kind that creates nice funny turnings in your tummy after watching it?

The Little Mermaid still has that effect on me:)

Ariel

ariel is one character that's beautiful inside and out. sure, she may come across as a simpleton who almost signs her death to ursula for a chance. her huge bambi eyes, long luscious red locks and slim (if you dont count her big chunky tail). she's a beauty, especially in that pink gown she wears for dinner after her first bath at the castle. ariel carries bravery, courage, determination and perseverance all in a pack, while spinning the threads of love and affection around everybody she crosses path with. sure, it's still rare for many to believe in love-at-first-sight occasions but how many of you would drop even your identity and race in pursuit for love? most of us would burn that fluffy dream out due to the paranoia of disastrous 'what if's. but ariel fought for her dream and passion, made sacrifices for it and in the end, saved her father and the poor unfortunate souls from ursula. to even master footwork and heels in less than a day. all for the name of love. that's admirable :)

Ariel

"I don't know when, I don't know how
But I know something's starting right now
Watch and you'll see, someday I'll be
Part of your world"
- Ariel, Part of Your World

sebastian the crab's my favourite too! his character is awwww-like. his respect and loyalty to the King and his affection to and protectivenss over ariel as a guardian and parent does more to make him loveable. plus who can not like his accent!? :) he gets torn between serving the King and helping his master's youngest daughter achieve her dream. his "soft-shellness" came thru, it was heartbreaking for him to see all ariel's thingamabops destroyed. he possibly sacrifices his good relations with the King, sacrificing his life to be ariel's protector and companion at the castle. his selflessness and gallantry is exemplary! and last but not least, his musically-inclined ear, conducting brilliant masterpieces with the other animals and the crustacean band! his relations with all creatures, wet or not, is amazing. it's a joy to watch!

Sebastian the Crab

"Each little snail here
Know how to wail here
That's why it's hotter
Under the water
Ya, we in luck here
Down in the muck here
Under the sea"
- Sebastian, Under the Sea

Kiss the Girl

i just thought of how cohesive and closeknitted all the animals were in the show, it didnt matter if you were a blowfish, a duck, a spitting fish, a seahorse or even a bird or turtle. everyone mattered. everyone chipped in to help sebastian, in turn helping ariel. even at the last minute emergency call when they were all summoned, even the seals, to help stall the wedding at the ship. it's a community that even i'd like to live in and would love tremendously! :)

Under the Sea

Kiss the Girl

and the love Triton the King had for his daughter, exchanging his life, the crown, his kingdom instead of his daughter's and in the end, it was seeing his daughter, even madly silly in love with prince eric, made him bend the rules. it's a lovely feeling. the father-daughter struggle-love is poignant and very familiar :) even seeing her father let go of her, on her wedding day, can make me tear. it's horribly reflective i guess :|

King Triton, Ariel and Flounder

i think everyone has a bit of ariel inside of you. you are passionate in something. but you get hurt and you get that surge of defiance and power to make it right. but maybe cos of circumstances or reasons, it stops us. what we lack is her courage and determination to go beyond. beyond what she thinks she can do. someday, somewhere out there, there'll be a prince eric that would make us pull out that inner strength :) for all you know, somewhere around you, you're blessed with a sebastian around too, but just that being so caught up with the spin and race, we oversee him/her.

oh my. i am so glad tim was fiddling with the remote control. i really am! :)

you were super brilliant bigthing! you made my day today ofcos but you found ariel which was the cherry on the top. you may not like dogs like prince eric, but it's ok, you'll get there ;)
