Thursday, February 21; puss in boots

warning: super long entry, edging on the brink of bimbo-ness. it'll probably be the first and last consumer purchase entry.

---

ive done it!

i have finally settled my childhood materialistic footwear desire: knee high leather boots.

River Island, dark chocolate brown, knee-high, $225

ok ok i know the drill, "impractical", "weather so hot already", "are you mad?", "when are you ever going to wear it?!", "later you look like a prostitute!", "scully get mouldy", etc. ive told myself those points many many many many many times! but this time, those reasons just seemed less impressionable :)

the new sexy lady, still shy in the box

since like secondary 1 or younger, ive always, and always, wanted a pair of knee high boots. dont ask me why and what harboured that inner desire. i dont think it was due to the classic love movie, pretty woman. actually i didnt like pretty woman's thigh-high boots - that'll be really impractical and would probably be able to make me slim down my lower half of the body with the amount of heat generated from wearing it. i just wanted a pair.

boots have been sprouting like mushrooms in many shoe stores over the last few years. but you see, as long as i found something i felt was a flaw - out it goes from my mental image and there my nagging boots feeling would still be there.

i tried nine west, americanya, aldo and even far east shops like mando. but they could either be: too pointed in the front, too thin a heel, too unstable, ugly scrunched up sides, funny embellishments or disgusting design bits. or like usual, it's a mix-and-match of all these flaws that make many boots totally a turn off. or just, not appealing enough.

the leather pattern design at the sides

and for boots, i dont see the point of buying leather ones with no heel (low ones are, still tolerable) - you might as well buy the cute rubber ones we usually wore as a kid, that came, with some cartoon design at the side, in yellow, red or blue.

side view, just look at the heel!

oh and you know all those fashionista advices and uppity-opinions, they usually suggest ankle boots so that the boots dont end up cutting your leg length and also risk looking like a tramp. and while i'm definitely steering away from the mini-skirt-tiny-top-knee-high-boots do unless it's for some costume party, i just cant seem to wear ankle boots.

i'd look so weird! like some stilt-walker who took off her stilts to walk on normal ground before attaching them back on later.

top view, knee high!

another issue was definitely the price, you can never find decent knee high boots that are below $100. and im not even talking about leather. most of them now are pvc or synthetic - which wont last long either. most great boots are looking at $300 odd - making it one of the most expensive impractical inventions (but still lovely!).

pretty pretty toe fronts!

the last encounter with one was in marks & spencer 2-3 years back. they were on offer, about $60. knee high. black. my size. i walked in them around the whole of m&s for more than an hour while my mom shopped. even some old man, waiting for his wife asked me inquiringly, "do you intend to buy them?" and i answered, "still deciding" and he also laughed.

in the end i didnt buy it. because i told myself it's impractical.

and that was a huge (and expensive) mistake cos it didnt satisfy my boots desire. and this lesson cost my mom (and dad and everyone else in the family's ears) $225 (after discount) at river island this time. and for this pair, it took me 4-5 trips to the outlet that even had the sales girl recognising me :)

while i am rather guilty at how much i have just contributed to the materialistic world and the thriving economy, i know that if i didnt get this pair, i really might have still gone on the search for a pair in the years to come, until i get one. now at least the desire for a(nother) pair of boots can wait :)

ok fine, i trrrrry to resist the urge to look at the boots displayed on shoe stores; though those i have peeked at because i just couldnt help it, are really ugly or not worth the price. so good good :)

ah-ha. the side view, again!

if you think these pictures dont seem to come out well, visit the brand's website here. how to get there: women >footwear >boots >middle pair on third page (if they havent added new ones to the list yet)

meanwhile, im just gonna try very hard to find myself some occasion to wear them :)

p.s. yes, the semester's finally over and i think i really almost drained myself to my max. so, im finally having a break now. the only few things to ponder on is if i can get my year 3 elective preferences and my exam results *cringe
