Congratulations Singapore!
You managed to beat the many many many many other countries with your small little hands at the bidding of the official venue for the Youth Olympic Games 2010 :)
read the latest article tonight
here from
Channel News Asia.the padang was seeing a sea of red, orange, green colours. it was like soaking up a mini National Day parade, with reportedly 5,000 students/audience members at the event - all awaiting for the live report on the bid results.
haha
apple did a great job, as usual, with his cheerleading up on stage with another junior. he is so obviously losing his voice to cheering, again! great job, boy! and to think, youre already booked to lead cheers in 2010 :)
here he is, at metta carnival - some charity event we helped out last time. yes, he can be a bit mad but always jolly, which sometimes the world needs from time to time. miss the hugs, apple!ooh and as expected (even if it's almost silly but cute) for jj to showcase their mass dance(s) in the middle of the road. ok ok i would have also done it if i was still schooling there.
what i have to say is that i couldnt stand were some bunch of international-maybekorean-sort students in maroon tees from the corner where tim and i were seated.
bloody annoying.
talking over the heads of people seated while they decided where to sit (even though there really isnt much choice for them since they sauntered in anyway). looking utterly bored throughout the event as though it was a torture to be there. being uncooperative and indecisive on where they wish to go and expected people to move for them without a 'please' or 'excuse me'.
and worse, once hearing who won the bid, they proceed -almost immediately- to start shoving their way down the aisle, while chattering loudly and with the same face of 'move, i want to get out of here'. and even moving off, they took their time.
how do you give respect to these people? fine, it isnt your country so you are in no obligation to feel the pride or excitement. but
hello, the point is that you are in a
foreign country. it's just showing some mutual respect. it is not even a rule to make the appearance sincere or not.
wait till you end up being in some country that makes you know youre
very clear about your nationality. with verbal insults and gunshots to your head.
sorry, i just get annoyed with people who seem to think life and everyone else owes them a living.
anyway, going back to the main point, it was a good atmosphere to be in (though it felt rather old to be around juniors who were somewhat actively cheering on and encouraging the crowd - i probably would have been reeled in to do cheers, jumps and dances as well if i were still in council).
i think Singapore's win today, was never in the vision that lky thought he would be able to help lead and shape towards. like an abandoned, unknown infant found and growing to an active youth. oooook maybe i have a soft spot for older men (with some exceptions ;] ).
Moscow's probably grumbling and muttering how some puny kid managed to beat him. Sorry, maybe next time :)
Singapore better show what we promise! :)
