Let me tell you something about today.
My seven-year-old nephew comes over to my place from primary school daily nowadays and before I started work I usually was home. Maybe to pick him up from school, walk home with him, keep him company at lunch, doing homework and just so he won't be alone til his mom came over to pick him after work.
But with work, I can never be home in the afternoon lately and only saw Timothy once a week on weekends.
However, today was different.
I had a local university interview scheduled this afternoon (15 April) and decided to take a day off to also settle some overseas studies research in the morning. Managing to be back home when his class ended, I had lunch with him and told him I was leaving for a bit in the afternoon.
Keeping it simple, I explained to him why.
Me: Ahyee needs to go out later for an interview at a bigger school and will be back later ok?
Timothy (T): What interview?
Me: Because the teacher at the bigger school wants to talk to me for awhile.
T: Oh. What time?
Me: 3pm.
T: What time does it end?
Me: I don't know. But I'll be coming back home later ok?
T (with an urgent voice): Must tell your teacher to finish by 5pm!Me: Why?
T: Because I go back at 6pm!Later on as I offer to share a bottle of Yakult with him, he takes a really quick sip and says with a big smile, "
Nevermind, I'm not very thirsty. I'll take a bit. More for you since it's yours."
Terrible, I know but well, it happens when you're with kids. One year back I think, taken at one of the mirrors at Wisma G2000 while we waited for my mother to make a very long decision over which colour pants to get. He's one of the most loved people around me, who can easily make me smile. Without even trying :)
